Job Description:

The FAO has developed the global programme “Achieving AFR100 with forest and farm producers” supported by Germany (BMZ). This programme aims to provide financial and technical support to local communities, including Indigenous Peoples, forest and farm producer organizations, and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises to scale up locally driven restoration actions and create value-added business and income opportunities.

Reporting Lines:

Under the general supervision of the  FAO Representative of the United Republic of Tanzania, the AFR100 Project Assistant will support the FAO country office in coordinating and implementing the project inception process.

Technical Focus:

The incumbent will assist the FAO Tanzania AFR100 Focal Person in coordinating the implementation of the AFR100 Project in Tanzania. This includes supporting the coordination of landscape biophysical and socio-economic assessments, developing Forest Landscape Management Plans, and implementing best forest restoration practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate internal governance support for Local Communities and FFPOs.
  • Assess and address policy and legal frameworks to empower LCs and FFPOs.
  • Identify potential value-added innovations, business opportunities, and market demands linked to restoration.
  • Provide training, technical assistance, and mentorship to LCs and FFPOs on innovation adoption and business development.
  • Support the establishment and growth of LC- and FFPO-led businesses.
  • Assess the needs and capacities of LCs and identify modalities for innovation and business incubation services.
  • Strengthen innovation and business incubation support services.
  • Support national planning and coordination of the AFR100 project inception phase.

Minimum Requirements:

  • University degree in Natural Resources Management, Forestry, Environmental Studies, Business Management, Economics, Agriculture, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the Forestry sector or a closely related field.
  • Working knowledge of English and Kiswahili.
  • National of the United Republic of Tanzania.

Technical/Functional Skills:

  • At least 3 years of practical experience in capacity development of smallholder forest and farm producer organizations.
  • Project management cycle and technical reporting.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with FAO or other UN agencies is an added advantage.
